Before Deciding

When our representatives are making important decisions that impact all of our lives I believe it is important to ask one basic question before making
those decisions,
Is this good for
the children?

Just imagine what our world would be like if that question was asked prior to making decisions about going to war, the environment, education or healthcare.

1. Therese Mughannam, Co-Founder North Coast Coalition for Palestine

2.  Lois Perlman, Co-Founder, North Coast Coalition for Palestine

----

 1.  Therese Mughannam was a baby when her parents fled their home in Israeli occupied Palestine, fearing their neighborhood would be the next to be attacked and destroyed.  Therese was raised in exile in Jordan by her parents for 10 years before their family received visas to the United States to settle in Santa Rosa and become citizens.  The Wildfire Disaster last month destroyed the homes of three sisters and two nephews. Visiting those neighborhoods devasted by the Tubbs Wildfire reminded Therese of Palestinian neighborhoods she saw lie in ruins after Israeli attacks.  In spite of the hardship of helping family members Therese, felt the regional conference Challenging Oppression: Working For Justice From Palestine To The U.S.A should proceed this weekend of the Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA), a nonprofit, tax-exempt Christian ecumenical organization seeking justice and peace in the Holy Land through nonviolent advocacy and education. Sabeel is an international peace movement initiated by Palestinian Christians, who seek a just peace as defined by international law and existing United Nations' resolutions.  The invitation is out to participate and learn about the issues.

About our Guest: Therese Mughannam was born in Jerusalem, right at the time historical Palestine was divided by the United Nations and over half of Palestine was given over to the new Jewish state. Her family and 750,000 other Palestinians lost their homes in the process, over 500 villages were systematically destroyed. By the end of that war Israel gained 78% of Palestine. Since 1967 Israel has occupied all the rest of Palestine. Therese has spent most of her adult years helping people to understand the injustice of this situation that we as American tax payers are supporting.

 ----

2.  Lois Perlman shares how she as Jew born in the USA came to understand the plight of the Palestinians under the state of Israel, that Zionism is a political philosophy of a perceived right to return to Palestine to set up a homeland inspite of Palestinian people already living there for thousands of years, and that Zionism is believed by only some Jews but not all Jews. Lois co-founded with Therese the North Coast Coalition for Palestine (NCCP), that formed in 2010 in response to the killings, by the Israeli military, of civilians on the Freedom Flotilla bringing medical and humanitarian supplies to Gaza. The NCCP is helping to coordinate the Regional conference Challenging Oppression: Working For Justice From Palestine To The U.S.A in Santa Rosa this weekend, and in San Francisco on Monday.

About our Guest: Lois Perlman is a theater artist, directpr and community activist, and a co-founder of North Coast Coalition for Palestine. You may have seen her perform at a number of local theaters, and she also directed several plays, including “My Name is Rachel Corrie.” As an activist she was part of a group that convinced the people of Sacramento to shut down the Rancho Seco nuclear power plant. In the 1990s she worked with Act Up Sonoma County to provide pubic funding for HIV/AIDS services and to proclaim a county-wide Gay Pride Day. In January she will be performing her one-woman show, "Last of the Red Hot Tenants" at the Arlene Francis Center as a benefit for Undocufund. At the Sabeel conmference Dec. 2 she will presenting a break-out session on Jewish resistance to the occupation of Palestine.
